African American Lifestyle Magazine has confirmed with a L.A. Coroners Office spokesperson that Whitney's body was released to the family. Whitney's body will be privately flown to New Jersey where her funeral will be held.
African American Lifestyle Magazine also spoke with a woman named Karla at Whigham Funeral Home, and they are neither denying nor confirming that they will receive Whitney's body. Whigham Funeral Home, also handled the 2003 funeral of Houston's father, John Houston.
A canopy was being constructed Monday afternoon at the rear entrance of the funeral home.
