Remington College continues its 3 Lives effort to recruit minority blood donors and help supply local hospitals with blood. 3 Lives is a national effort held in partnership withAmerica's Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. The effort has resulted in more than 8,200 pints of blood collected since the program began.
The goal for 2013 is to pass the 10,000 pint mark!
3 Lives facts
  • ONE pint of blood can save up to THREE lives.
  • The need for blood is high, but only about 5% of eligible donors regularly donate blood. Minority donors are in very high demand.
  • African American blood donors provide blood with unique antigens vital for people battling sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases.
  • Sickle cell trait occurs in high frequency among African Americans and/or Hispanics; more than 80,000 people in the U.S. have sickle cell disease.
AJ Green, 3 Lives national spokesperson
Singer AJ Green, spokesperson for the 3 Lives campaign, has been battling sickle cell disease for most of his life and requires monthly blood transfusions.
"There are tens of thousands of people like me who require regular donations as part of our treatment," said Green. "My goal is to get more people of color to become regular blood donors and help save lives."
While the primary goal of the 3 Lives campaign is to recruit minority donors, everyone is encouraged to donate blood. All the blood collected will be used to help people in the Cleveland area.
